I have hyperhidrosis, meaning I sweat a lot

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition that causes excessive sweating.

In my case, I sweat excessively in my underarms (axillary hyperhidrosis), hands (palmar hyperhidrosis), feet (plantar hyperhidrosis), groin, legs, back, and chest. The one place I don’t sweat excessively is my face (craniofacial hyperhidrosis).

I first noticed my sweating around age 10. I’m now in my early 40s, so that means I have a lot of experience with sweat!

Whether you have hyperhidrosis, or just consider yourself a sweaty person, you’re not alone.

And in this post, I provide my honest opinion of SweatBlock’s underarm stick and wipes for controlling underarm sweat.

They didn’t ask me to write it. (I doubt they know I exist, lol!)

So you can consider it my honest opinion.

Anyways, let’s get into it…

I learned about SweatBlock years ago when looking for a hyperhidrosis-friendly antiperspirant

If you have hyperhidrosis, you know that a regular strength, run of the mill antiperspirant just doesn’t cut it.

When I apply drugstore antiperspirant, it mostly ends up in the armpits of my clothes. It sweats off almost immediately and leaves a sticky residue in my shirts. Over time, this gets harder to wash out and my shirts end up discolored, stinky, and ready for the trash. It’s really annoying!

What caught my eye about SweatBlock is that they offer wipes that can be used to complement their antiperspirant stick.

I’ve tried prescription-strength topicals in the past and those were simply too irritating for my underarm skin. I figure since SweatBlock isn’t a prescription product, it wouldn’t be as strong.

So, for those reasons, I decided to order SweatBlock’s Extra Strength Deodorant Antiperspirant + DriBoost Antiperspirant Wipes from Amazon.

The two products came as a bundle, but of course you can also order them separately too.

(Please note, their packaging has since changed, but the product is the same!)

As a friendly reminder, a ‘deodorant’ takes care of smell, while an ‘antiperspirant’ handles sweat. So, for SweatBlock, their underarm stick is a deodorant antiperspirant. And their wipes offer an antiperspirant.

Let’s talk scent, because when it comes to excessive underarm sweat, scent matters

I decided to go with Coastal Fresh as the scent for SweatBlock deodorant antiperspirant underarm stick I ordered.

Side note: They have since released a Coconut & Vanilla scent that comes in a fun pink case, which I 100% will be trying next because I’m a sucker for pink and also who doesn’t love coconut and vanilla!

Anyways, for Coastal Fresh, the smell is quite strong.

Not necessarily in a bad way though.

I’m very sensitive to strong, fake smelling scents. I don’t wear perfume. I hate sleeping in strong smelling sheets. I get migraines often. I am just a baby when it comes to strong smells.

So, at first, I was a bit worried about the scent. It smells a bit like concentrated liquid laundry detergent.

It’s weird though, because when I put it on, I found the scent mellowed a bit and it didn’t bother me. It remained consistently fresh-smelling throughout the day, yet didn’t impact my sensitive olfactory glands.

Now, that being said, I tried applying it at night a few times and NO WAY. No thank you. I couldn’t sleep with that scent on me all night. I had to wash it off. It was way too much for me at night.

But during the day, I quite enjoy it.

How’s the texture, you ask?

Ok, so something that really triggers me as person with hyperhidrosis is the feeling of cream or creamy products on my skin. For instance, applying body lotion on my hands makes me sweat instantly.

So for me, the texture (is that the right word to use? I don’t know) of an antiperspirant really matters.

The feeling of SweatBlock’s deordorant antiperspirant stick passed my test. Check.

It’s less sticky/chunky than a drugstore variety, but not too thin either. It almost feels a bit like coconut oil when it is applied to the underarm… something like that.

Does it stain clothes? The hard truth…

Unfortunately, in my experience, it left marks.

Buuuut, I have yet to find an antiperspirant that doesn’t eventually wreck my clothes.

(Is this just me?? Is this user error??)

Some of the antiperspirant ended up on my clothes and left slightly oily marks. Not really white marks. More of an oily residue.

So, I mean, it didn’t permanently stain my clothes but I feel fairly confident that if I wore a white shirt every day that over time, the underarms would be discolored. (Someone please do this test!).

Moving on to the wipes – let’s talk about their antiperspirant wipes!

So I love the idea of these little antiperspirant wipes!

In the instructions that accompany them, it says to apply the wipe to your clean, dry underarms at bedtime.

In bold letters, it says “DO NOT RUB”! So I didn’t rub! I dabbed!

It also said to wait 24 hours after shaving to apply.

So, I presume this means you could experience irritation if you rub, or if you apply it to broken skin.

Personally, I didn’t experience any irritation from this product, but I also have pretty rugged skin, lol. If you have sensitive skin, definitely follow the instructions very closely and test a small area first.

I will say, though, the scent of the wipes are a bit tough for me to deal with overnight.

I get through it, and it’s waaaaay better than wearing the antiperspirant at night, but again I’m a sensitive flower when it comes to my nose, and I just find the scent of the wipes wake me up at night.

Speaking of their smell, they smell…. interesting. Almost like cloves.

So in a way, they smell ‘natural’ but also with, like, an eau-du-chemical undertone?

Very interesting.

Not offensive, but odd.

One thing I do very much appreciate about the antiperspirant wipes is that they are very wet!

There is no shortage of liquid in them.

So, they’re easy to use. It’s no problem getting your whole armpit nice and wet without rubbing (which, again, they warn about in shouty letters).

So the moment of truth… does SweatBlock actually work?!

Ok, so this is v hard to answer. And I know that’s a huge bummer because you want a definitive yes/no, right?

So, here’s the thing… if you have hyperhidrosis like I do, you might agree that very few solutions that you can purchase easily like this work, 100%.

Did it reduce my sweating? YES!

Did it stop my sweating entirely? No.

So, I think it comes down to managing your expectations.

Like, you wouldn’t expect to go on a low-cost all-inclusive vacation and eat like a king, right? You’re gonna be eating at a buffet. It’s going to be great for a buffet, but it’s not a Michelin-star restaurant, ya know?

Same with this. You can purchase it online. It’s relatively affordable. It doesn’t require a prescription, invasive procedures, or expensive machines. And the results, for me anyway, match that vibe.

It also really depends on how much you sweat. What works miracles for some people, might not be enough to move the needle for others.

So, to summarize:

Do I personally like SweatBlock’s products? Yes!

Do I use SweatBlock myself? Yes!

Does it help me manage my underarm hyperhidrosis? Yes!

Does it stop my sweating entirely? No.

Will it stop YOUR sweating entirely? Maybe?! Maybe not?! It kinda depends on how much you sweat and how committed you are to the regiment.

So, I hope this helps (ish) and provides you with enough additional information to make your own decision!
