About Sweaty Girl Society
Why We Exist
Living with hyperhidrosis is difficult. The stigma around excessive sweating is silencing, and feeling uncomfortable is endlessly frustrating. Despite being a medical condition, hyperhidrosis is overlooked, under diagnosed and under researched. On top of that, it affects every aspect of life, from socializing, to relationships, to school and work, to self-confidence.
It’s no wonder hyperhidrosis sufferers disproportionately experience anxiety and depression — and feel alone.
My earliest memory of hyperhidrosis dates back to being 10 years old. I was at a sleepover and my hands wouldn’t stop sweating. I kept going to the bathroom to run them under cold water and to try to rub them dry. Rather than help, this only made things worse. I felt confused and ashamed, and I hoped none of my friends would notice.
It took me 12 years to get a diagnosis at age 22. I was so embarrassed talking to my doctor about it that I could barely get the words out. For the next 18 years, I tried to hide my excessive sweating from others, while also trying almost every product and treatment available on the market, and silently coping with the daily discomfort and frustration of it all.
Then, on my 40th birthday, in early 2024, the idea for Sweaty Girl Society came to me. After living quietly with hyperhidrosis for three full decades, I felt compelled to take action. I started Sweaty Girl Society with one mission: To help other women feel less alone in their journey with hyperhidrosis.
The thing is, there are almost 200 million women globally who live with hyperhidrosis. Almost 200 million. Even though we might feel alone, we are sooo not alone.
I’m excited you’ve found Sweaty Girl Society. If you’re excited too, I invite you to join me on this journey. There are many ways you can to take part: explore the blog, sign up for the newsletter, join our community, and follow us on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
Let’s sparkle together, sweaty girls!
